A study of wrist angles when using portable ultrasound systems with a wrist supporting device

چکیده
It has been widely known that typing on a keyboard and using a mouse for extended periods of time can affect or exacerbate musculoskeletal disorders of forearms or CTS (carpal tunnel syndrome). Most studies related to this have reported that the flexion/extension angle of wrists and radial/ulnar deviation angle of wrists, as well as the pronation/supination angle of the forearms, can cause an increase in activity of extensor carpi ulnaris (ECU), muscle fatigue, and musculoskeletal disorders in forearms. There are also along with frequent reports of CTS incidence resulting from an increase of intracarpal canal pressure (ICCP). What kind of clinical impact will result from typing on a portable ultrasound system for diagnosing patients rather than on a standard computer? Portable ultrasound systems are designed to have small footprints for easy carrying and immediate access for use in emergencies or surgeries, and they are designed to be similar to laptops in order to make them as small as possible. However, there are issues raised by researchers regarding such portable ultrasound systems. It is claimed that the disadvantages from such shapes include leaving the wrist or the forearm in the air without a wrist-supporting device, causing significant burdens on the wrist and forearm. This study aims to identify the impact of muscular fatigue on the forearm and the pressure to the carpal canal while using portable ultrasound systems by varying the wrist angle during use. It also aims to examine the usefulness of recently developed portable ultrasound systems by comparing these wrist angles when using portable ultrasound systems with a wrist supporting device (new model) and those without a support (conventional model).

Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the kinematics of liberation moment in the elite archers. Methods: Ten elite archers (male = 5, female = 5), who were the members of the provincial and national teams, were studied. The trunk and upper extremities of the subjects were determined by 5 reflective markers. Each archer performed 10 successful trials. Using Motion Analysis System...

Background & Aim: In radiographic evaluation of carpal instability, the standard method has been the measurement of a series of angles and the new triangulation ratio on lateral wrist radiograms. This study was undertaken to compare these indices in normal and unstable joints. Patients and Methods: Nineteen normal wrist radiograms along with 21 with plamar and 19 with dorsal instability pat...

Introduction: Application of biofeedback techniques in rehabilitation has turned into an exciting research area during the recent decade. Providing an appropriate visual or auditory biofeedback signal is the most critical requirement of a biofeedback technique. In this regard, changes in Surface Electromyography (SEMG) signals during wrist movement can be used to generate an indictable visual b...

Background: Few reports represent palmar cutaneous nerve neuropathy in the wrist due to a ganglion cyst. Case Presentation: A 25-year-old female was presented with a mass at volar side of the wrist and hypoesthesia at the base of thenar eminence. At ulrasonographic examination, a simple cyst was detected. Sensory response of palmar cutaneous branch of median nerve was absent at the affec...
متن کاملArthroscopic Ablation of Osteoid Osteoma in the Wrist
Osteoid osteoma is a benign bone tumor that rarely involves joints. Although there are several reports of arthroscopic osteoid osteoma excisions, to our knowledge, there are no reports of this type of treatment for osteoid osteoma in carpal bones. We report two cases of arthroscopic (a person who had a pain in the left wrist and the other one with carpal tunnel syndrome) with excision of oste...
